![]() ![]() ACs from 14 to 17 in tiers 1-2, d8 hit dice, the primary defensive feature (Uncanny Dodge) competes with the Sentinel reaction attack and furthermore only works once per turn, and somehow this is supposed to survive as a melee character? The only offensive buff that seems reliable is Booming Blade, which is reasonably easy for any other rogue to pick up from a multiclass, feat, race, etc.īut even more than unreliable offense, this style of Arcane Trickster seems incredibly fragile. In my experience, familiars die very quickly after they begin to participate in combat relying on concentration spells like Shadow Blade or Haste on a character that has mediocre AC and no CON save proficiency probably won't be reliable and Sentinel is hard to reliably get reaction attacks from when you're likely the squishiest (and therefore usually the best target) martial on the field. My question is, does this work in real play? In combat, the recommendation is usually to take Elven Accuracy, Find Familiar, Shadow Blade (or Haste), Booming Blade, and often Sentinel to try to maximize the rogue's damage. I'm a big fan of adding magic to the rogue and I find the subclass great for out-of-combat utility. Whenever a post appears on here about optimizing rogues, usually the top response is the recommendation of an Arcane Trickster. This is, without a doubt, a nova build that'll really only come online with it's amazing power at really high levels, but it will still be viable at lower levels because bard and Rogue multiclass is horrifying.Aid other tabletop gamers in creating interesting or devastating characters. The plan for combat would be to have our ally wizard cast darkness (my DM has blessed us with a boon saying we can see through magical darkness), get advantage on the attack (so already I do my sneak attack,) use booming blade, action surge, then get two more attacks because of the college of blades 6th level feature. I would take booming blade as either a magic initiate spell or as an actual cantrip, I'm unsure. My ideal set up for this is to have a shadow blade with the Trickster, dueling from the college of swords, and crit fish with levels of champion. I'm trying to make a combat heavy Arcane Trickster that mostly stays in close combat. ![]() ![]() Aid other tabletop gamers in creating interesting or devastating characters. ![]()
